Our OB/GYN providers perform diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy in a comfortable environment. This minimally invasive procedure enables us to determine the cause of abnormal bleeding, as well as other symptoms, and to operate on them if needed.

Diagnostic Hysteroscopy

To perform this procedure, a long thin tube with a light on the end called a hysteroscope is inserted through the vagina and into the cervix. It transmits an image of your uterus onto a screen, enabling us to take a closer look to determine what is causing the problem. Performed in our office, diagnostic hysteroscopy explores the cause for:

  • Heavy Menstrual Periods
  • Bleeding In-between Periods
  • Infrequent Periods
  • Severe Cramping
  • Unexplained Bleeding in Postmenopausal Women

It may also be used to:

  • Locate an IUD
  • Confirm Results of Other Diagnostic Tests
  • Diagnose Cause for Repeated Miscarriage

If necessary, we can take a sample of tissue for a biopsy in order to perform further tests. If the cause of the concern is detected during the hysterectomy, we can proceed with an operation at the same time.

Operative Hysteroscopy

While a diagnostic hysterectomy may only take 5 minutes to perform, that time will lengthen if it is advantageous to proceed with an operation to correct the issue. Using the same hysteroscope, small tools are inserted through the tube to conduct the surgery. An operation may be necessary to:

  • Remove Polyps, Fibroids, & Adhesions
  • Perform Sterilization Surgery
  • Perform Endometrial Ablation

This procedure is minimally invasive and has a shorter recovery time than traditional open surgery. It is normal to experience minor vaginal bleeding or cramps for a few days following the procedure.
